Whole Prey-model raw feeding is what I recommend and feed to our own carnivore companions. However, there are times, like during travel, when feeding raw meat is inconvenient and just plain messy. What to do? Enter freeze-dried diets!
There are many brands available with varied ingredients so always do your research. Freeze-dried diets most often come in nugget form.
Some contain ground bone, some don't. Some are made from human-grade ingredients.
Some have added fruit and vegetables, but carnivores are not able to digest carbohydrates so steer clear of those ones.
Some add a vitamin pack. Again, I suggest choosing a brand that does not add vitamins since they are almost always synthetic vitamins. That means they are not bio-available to the body, are not recognized by the body, and act as toxins. Not good!
While I would never recommend that freeze-dried diets comprise an animals’ entire diet, in some circumstances they are a valuable addition to keep your carnivore companion on raw for health and balance.
