After many hours engaged in the favorite wintry pastime of poring over seed catalogs, I finally settled on what flowers and greenery to cultivate in the first year of Posies at Highland Glenn Ranch.
It took some doing to keep it modest! Quality over quantity is a good motto.
Here is my list for 2024:
Zinnia
Sunflower
Cosmos
Snapdragon
Celosia
Nigella, a.k.a. Love-in-a-Mist (isn’t that a lovely name!)
Scabiosa, a.k.a. Pincushion Flower (another sweet name)
Monarda, a.k.a. Bee Balm (yep, bees love ‘em!)
Yarrow (both wild and cultivated)
Six of those I’ve grown before. The others I’ve wanted to grow, so they are sort of an experiment.
Experimenting is good! It tells me what to grow (or not) based on my thoughts and experiences as well as feedback from my customers.
The greens I’m growing are mints, basil, and lemon balm. A few wild/native plants already established on the ranch will serve as interesting filler throughout the season.
As for the gorgeous flower colors, you’ll just have to wait and see!
