Changing & Growing

It’s hard to believe August is almost here! I hope you are enjoying your own gardens so far.

It’s been quite a while since I last blogged, and I just started posting on Facebook again.

I’ve had a rough go with my health this year.


In mid-May, I was rushed to the ER. The doctor said the extreme pain was an acute exacerbation of my chronic illnesses. I’ve never before experienced the like. It took weeks to get to the point that I could do anything more than feed the chickens without feeling completely weak for the rest of the day. I had another attack two weeks ago, but at least I had medication from the doctor, so there was no need for another ER trip. Sadly, this means my abilities have been reduced.

 

My health put me a few weeks behind in transplanting. YES, thank goodness for Tom’s help, getting all of the flower seedlings in the ground! I certainly didn’t want to lose all the work and growing time that had gone into those flower babies.


 Also, the garden expansion couldn’t happen. Tom was too busy keeping things going and caring for me. Since we haul all of our water in and with the terrible drought, not expanding the garden may not be such a negative thing. Creeks and rivers are already at a shocking low, and we’ve heard some folks in the county even have reduced water from their wells.


Recuperation and considering the future of POSIES forced a social media hiatus (which I enjoyed!) and a pivot in what we do.


While we will have flowers for our 2026 Bouquet Subscribers, we will no longer be selling fresh flowers, nor will I offer any event work.


I simply must grow flowers, though! All stages of their fascinating, colorful, therapeutic presence are much needed.


The focus will be to carry on what I began last year - that of preserving flowers and turning them into beautiful products for you. We will produce a limited line of seeds, specializing in Spencer Sweet Peas. Because, well, you know, I adore them! Custom arrangements will be available on a very limited basis. Those are all things I can do at the pace my health requires.


So stay with us… POSIES looks a little different now, but we’re still here!
