Our Breeding Philosophy

Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible.” - Anonymous

At Highland Glenn, we believe that breeding dogs is not a right, but a true privilege. As such there are compelling responsibilities upon anyone who undertakes to do so, including thoughtful breed stewardship. As stewards of the Havanese we are honored to add to their advancement and ensure that the lives of our puppies are filled with what Havanese were bred for- human companionship and love.

Our goal is to produce strong, healthy dogs according to breed type with the wonderful personality that has made Havanese cherished companions for thousands of years.

When we breed a litter, we do so in the hopes of producing outstanding dogs and continuing the legacy of our Naturally Reared line

What makes Highland Glenn Havanese different? Our breeding philosophy goes far deeper than appearance, pedigree, and show titles - it reaches to the very core of natural health for future generations.

As Natural Rearing Breeders the foundation of our breeding program focuses on optimal canine nutrition and health: feeding a Species Appropriate Raw diet, no exposure to chemicals and toxins, building natural immunity and utilizing natural therapies if called for.

Through Natural Rearing we are committed to the health of our dogs and the Havanese breed.

Although we are not currently able to show our dogs, we respect those who do. However, we breed strictly according to the Havanese Standard and for temperament, placing a special emphasis on epigenetically sound dogs all to produce the classic Havanese: a sturdy, versatile, loving companion dog with a special spark of vitality.

Much planning and time go into each litter, and it is all rewarded with puppy sweetness, the ear-to-ear smiles of each new puppy guardian, and a beautiful dog full of health and vitality. Of course, as with any puppy, it will be up to the humans to continue appropriate care, socialization, and training.

As members of the Natural Rearing Breeders Association (NRBA), we are delighted to be in the international company of breeders with the same natural health goals for their respective breeds.
