Dog Allergies
Havanese dogs have hair, not fur, which means they do not go through a heavy seasonal shed like breeds with fur. Being double-coated, their inner coat does loosen, however, and if not combed regularly will become matted in the outer coat.

The Havanese is considered to be “hypoallergenic”, although that is a somewhat misleading term. Some people with mild dog allergies or asthma often find they do not experience a reaction to Havanese and/or that keeping their Havanese in a short coat clip proves helpful.

Those who are severely allergic to dogs may still be allergic to Havanese. If you or someone in your home is allergic to dogs, ask us for tips on how you might be able to share life with a Havanese.

Why the difference and why do people have dog allergies? It’s mostly about a little thing called dander.
