Losing your dog in death can be unbearable, the grief so deep you choke on it. Yet, a high percentage of those people find room in their heart to welcome another dog into their life. We are no exception.
An English Shepherd friend sent this out to her friends who have lost a dog. It’s by Dean Koontz, the author of “A Big Little Life”. It sums things up pretty well:
“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your life long companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price.”
And let’s not forget how much heart-healing a puppy is capable of!
